During the summer of 2014, the original line up of Veruca Salt performed a small set of east and west coast dates. These photos were taken at The Theater of Living Arts in Philadelphia on July 22nd, 2014 with a Lumix DMC-ZS40 point and shoot. I was a bit disappointed with the camera’s handling and low-light performance and left the set alone back then. After looking through them again, I liked the motion blur and some of the effects produced by the sensor in the difficult low-light conditions and decided to put together this set. Shot in Panasonic RAW at 1600; the only post-processing was a bit of noise reduction.
For today’s TBT we go back to 1997 and 2001 for some shots on film. The Susanna Hoffs photos with the striped dress are from a free mid-day concert series at the World Trade Center in July of 1997 in support of her eponymous album. The low-light red shot is from a concert at Fez the following evening. The photo of Vicki Peterson is from a show with the Continental Drifters in support of Better Day at the same location at the WTC in July of 2001. Photos shot with a Nikon F4 and a 80-200mm F2.8 Nikkor, scanned with a Nikon Coolscan IV (back in 2001).
Here is a set of photographs from The BlueBonnets’ show at The Rock Shop in Brooklyn on November 8th, 2014. The photos were shot on a Nikon D4s with a 24-70mm f2.8 and converted to monochrome in PS. The BlueBonnets shared the bill with Jane Lee Hooker and after the show both bands wanted a group shot. Since the interior of the venue was dimly lit, we improvised with a shot in front of a window tinting shop down the block.
Here are a couple of black and white shots of The Both – Aimee Mann and Ted Leo – from their concert on May 1st, 2014 at The Music Hall in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Shot on Kodak Tri – X 400 pushed to 3200 to see what would happen. Scanned on a Nikon Coolscan 9000 with minor spotting in PS. This roll was shot with a Leica M6 TTL and Summicron 50mm F2 – both of which have since departed from my collection.
Welcome to AGN Photo, a collection of my photography throughout the years. The blog will contain mostly live concert photography (and mostly Go-Go’s) but also some other styles and subjects. A lot of these photos have already made their way out onto the web, but I hope to publish some outtakes which I enjoy personally and I hope you will as well.
The first post includes photos of my talented pal Jane Wiedlin in concert with The Go-Go’s. These photos were recently pulled from the files for a project and I thought that they would be a perfect way to kick off the blog. She is a particular fan of the HOB “Hello Kitty cap” image and has used it for the recent Go-Go’s tour mat, the all-access pass laminate, a cd insert and a banner.
Photographs taken with a Nikon D3 and 70-200 f2.8.
Thanks for looking!
